Education
From to Stay in School to Read to Achieve, the NBA has a long history of supporting education. Teams and players have supported programs that stress the importance of education and provide the necessary resources and safe places to foster growth. By providing resources, including books and computer technology, the NBA continues to aid schools, libraries and community-based organizations in their concerted effort to open doors to success in children’s lives. Players also support their own outreach initiatives by speaking to youth about the importance of gaining a well-rounded education.
Launched in May 2001, the NBA's Read to Achieve campaign encourages young people to develop a life-long love for reading and on-line literacy, as well as encourages adults to read regularly with children. Read to Achieve is supported by teams in the local markets through reading events, incentive programs and educational materials.
Reading & Learning Centers
As a part of the NBA’s commitment to creating places to live, learn and play, the NBA has created more than 195 Reading & Learning Centers worldwide. These projects include new or renovated libraries, reading room and technology centers equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
NBA teams support a diverse array of programs and initiatives that provide opportunities to youth and encourage children to actively participate in their own education. From basic reading to financial literacy, these programs supply enhancements to the great work that schools and non-profit organizations are currently doing.
